Barkley Shut Up & Jam by Ringler Visit B&C Website
Updated June 6, 2002

This game has 20 characters to choose from including Charles Barkley, and two separate modes of play. The first mode is the standard "versus mode," where the player just chooses his character and plays. The other mode is a tournament mode, where the player can end up endorsing products on the way to the final against Charles Barkley. The game can be summed up as a texture mapped NBA Jam without the special dunks. This is another four player game, and is set for a September release. I can assure you on the Barkley game that it's the final version. It was encrypted by Atari in January 1996 (no universal encryption header). It was encrypted by John Skruch I assume (since he was basicly the guy handling all this stuff around Dec/Jan '95).

The Atari ROM archive floppy disks this game came off of have an Atari part number assigned to them. The game was also encrypted approximately two weeks after Fight For Life. So it was one of the titles Atari was planning on releasing to full fill their commitment with share holders that they were still supporting the Jaguar (like they did with FFL release). Tramiels just buying time until they could weazel out of share holder responsibilities and merge with JTS.

I think the reason Bruce is thinking unknown is because when he tried it out, he had some problems controlling the players. There are settings in the game where you can have either full control or shooting control of the players. There's a setting for Demo which I think defaults to when you first play the game. In this mode, the computer does all the playing and you don't get to select the players.

The game plays up to two players. Two player cooperative or against, IIRC. Doesn't appear to be Team Tap compatiable, but I could be wrong.

Hope this clears up peoples questions regarding the game.

Isn't this a 4MB cart also? $60 is a great price for a finished 4MB cart. Wish it was something other than Basketball, since the JAG already has 2 B'ball games, but I ordered it anyway.

Yes it is a 4MB.

I wish it was something else too, like maybe Tiny Toons. But the well is drying up and games available to release. After this is probably just newly written titles.

I hope you enjoy the game!
